WHERE HAVE YOU SEARCHED FOR SIGNIFICANCE?

WHERE HAVE YOU SEARCHED FOR SIGNIFICANCE?

God created you to feel significant in his eyes, but most women don’t focus on the “in his eyes” part of that sentence. They search for significance through their writing, speaking, teaching, or philanthropic gestures. What about you? How have you attempted to leave your mark of significance? Today is all about being significant in God’s eyes—the only place his gift of fulfillment can be redeemed. Settling this issue will free you up to serve Christ more wholeheartedly.

THE INCESSANT CALL OF SIGNIFICANCE

Over the centuries, good people have tried every conceivable method to have their life labeled as significant. They have sought stardom, completed risky goals, left architectural legacies, created memorable artwork, amassed wealth, destroyed enemies, and broken achievement records. They have been passionate environmentalists, creative lobbyists, dedicated humanitarians, superstar athletes, brilliant scholars, and stunning actresses. Some have found the secret of true significance in Jesus, but many have not. Tracy Hanson, a member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) can save you some legwork on your search.

TRACY HANSON SEARCHED AND FOUND WHAT SHE WAS LOOKING FOR

Tracy has played competitive golf for more than twenty years. Since joining the LPGA tour in 1995, she has had numerous top-five and top-ten finishes, including a tie for first place (she lost in a playoff ). Tracy ranks in the top one hundred on the LPGA all-time career money list.

Early in Tracy’s spiritual journey, she knew God intellectually. However, in 1997, a broken engagement and the death of her mother took Tracy to her knees before God with a broken heart. As God nestled her close to him during this difficult time, Tracy began a heart relationship with him, and this has made all the difference in her life. Being a professional golfer provides her a unique platform to share her testimony about God’s love and her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Tracy acknowledges that, for years, she tried to find significance through her academic and athletic achievements, but she found only discontentment amidst the success and materialism. She now realizes that her true significance is not based on how well she performs on the golf course or in any other area of her life, but on being a daughter of the King. She says, “The only significance that will not fade away is being a child of God through the grace of Jesus Christ on the cross.”

Where Have You Searched for Significance?

Solomon Searched for Significance

Solomon, the richest and wisest man in the Bible (with wisdom second only to Jesus), searched and searched for the truth about living a life filled with significance. Read Ecclesiastes 12:9–14. In what way do you agree or disagree with Solomon’s findings?

SCRIPTURE TO PONDER

This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16)

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Dear Lord, this is what you say to me: “_________, stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your soul.” I humbly ask you to bless my efforts to put you first in my life today. Guide me in my understanding of you as being the only one who is truly significant and the only one who will make my life matter. Teach me to lay my worldly attempts at your feet and seek you first.
