THERE’S NO EQUAL
“There is no other God to me in this world” – Sri Sai Satcharitra, Ch. XXVIII.
Jiva Goswami was a great devotee of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He lived as a recluse in Brindavan, and the temple in the vicinity were under his presiding care.
When Mira came to Brindavan, she wished to worship at the temples there. She arrived at the hermitage of Jiva Goswami and respectfully sent word to him that she wished to have his darshan.
Brusquely, Jiva sent back his reply through one of his disciples – he would not behold the face of a woman!
Mira began to sing and dance outside the hermitage.
She said to those present, “How foolish I have been! I thought that there was only one male in Brindavan – Shri Krishna! And all the rest of us, were his gopis. Now I am told there are two males – Krishna and Jiva!”
Jiva Goswami heard this and his heart was pierced. He came out running, fell at Mira’s feet and begged her forgiveness.
