My God, if I dared to grumble, the only thing of which
I would complain is that you have not sent enough good
spiritual guides into your Church. There are so many
who can put on an outward display of godliness, but
inwardly have little real knowledge or holiness. . . . I thank
you that you hid the mysteries of your truth from such
people, who are so great in their own eyes. Instead you
chose to reveal yourself to those who count themselves as
nothing. Yet those who have true holiness and true
understanding are often so reluctant to serve as spiritual
directors, saying that they are not worthy to offer guidance
to others. Put into their hearts the courage and the
confidence to share with others the grace
which they have received.
