The Unique Saint of Shirdi

Each Saint or prophet during his lifetime has manifested some aspect of Godliness. But hardly has there been one so richly endowed as Sri Sai Baba in presenting to the world of human consciousness the versatility of God. Sai Baba is a unique JEWEL on the horizon of spirituality. Sitting on a rugged stone with an innocent face, eyes full of compassion and deeply concerned for the sufferings of the humanity, with a torn Kafni on His body. He is a unique Saint who had descended on this Holy Earth to shoulder the burdens and sufferings and answer the calls of His innumerable devotees, irrespective of their caste, creed or religion.

 

Nobody knew the parentage, birth or place of birth of Sri Sai Baba. Many queries were put to Him but none got a satisfactory reply or answer. Those who tried were dumbfounded and were captured by His unique and splendid personality. Nobody could get or gather any authentic information as to the caste, creed or religion to which He belonged. It is no wonder that He who had completely surrendered Himself to the Lord by getting rid of His egotism and thus became one with Him had nothing to do with the question of caste, creed or religion. For His food, He begged only from a few houses and shared it with both human beings and animals without any difference.

 

Sai Baba preached and practiced Harmony, Love and Universal Brotherhood. He had descended on this earth to bridge the gap between the various communities. He preached that God in whatever form worshipped was one and the same. When it is so, then why should we quarrel among ourselves? He celebrated the festivals of the Hindus and Muslims alike.

 

The life and teachings of Sai Baba is wide and deep as the infinite ocean in which all can dive deep into it and take out precious gems of knowledge and bhakti. The teachings of Sai Baba give peace and happiness to the people who are afflicted with sorrows and miseries. If these interesting teachings and leelas of Sai Baba which are instructive as the Vedic lore when listened to and meditated upon, the devotees shall get what they long for i.e., bliss supreme, peace and eternal union with the Brahman.

 

People who saw Him derived immense benefits (both spiritual and temporal). He is known for answering to the prayers of His devotees by granting them boons and satisfying their wishes. He comes to the aid of His sorrowing and distressed devotees when in dire need and calls Him through pure devotion and saves them from all impending calamities.

 

For this Kaliyuga, Sai Baba's Name should be recited by every religious minded person for salvation from the impending perils which are causing great concern for our very survival.

 

Sai Baba always sat near the Dhuni that was lit when He was in flesh and blood and continues to burn even to this day and shall continue to burn till such time He wants it. The Dhuni yields the sacred ash - Udi/Vibhuti which is all 'powerful' due to the grace and omnipresence of Sai Baba.

 

In our land there are many holy places, which were treaded by Saints during their lifetime. But all these holy places do not get sanctified even if the Lord wants it, because only a few such Saints get the land in which they treaded and sanctified, one such is Shirdi.

 

Sai Baba is God incarnate for this Kaliyuga and He will protect all His devotees from the Samadhi. All our relatives and friends will forsake us at some point of time, especially when calamities knock at our doorstep, but never will Sai Baba forsake us. Sri Sai Baba tests us as to how much Shraddha and Saburi have we attained during adverse times by chanting and reciting His names and singing His glory.

 

We should remember Sai's commitment and promise to His devotees "Why fear when I am Here" and lead a life by surrendering ourselves to His Holy Feet as Sai Baba is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient.

Our Beloved Sadguru Sainath, please accept our humble prayers on this Holy Day of Guruvaar. Baba, we accept whatever come to us. We do not seek the 'pleasant', do not shun the 'unpleasant'. We rejoice in everything that happen by reporting to You every moment that we are passing. With our sincere prayers, all that happened, all that is happening, and is yet to happen, all are for our best. Baba, take our mind with You and make our ways safe and secure. On this holy day, we start our prayers by reading your divine guidance from Shri Sai Samartha Satcharitra.

'If God cares for me, he will give me everything without my making any efforts is a promise. This is true as far as food and clothing is concerned.'

 

 

But if anyone, who is a spiritual seeker, applies it he will ruin himself completely. Baba's words: "He will reap as he sows " are invaluable, in that respect.

 

 

Some other words of Baba will bring about tremendous happiness. If only one has the warmth of faith and devotion, they will be deep-rooted in the heart.

 

 

" I do not reside in one place. I am present in the waters, on the land, in the woods, amongst the people and away from the people, in your own country and in foreign lands, in the skies and in the light of the sun.

 

 

I have taken this human form to remove the misconcept of those who consider me to be present only in this body of three-and-a-half arms length.

 

 

Those who sing my praise continuously, day and night, they are themselves replicas of my inner self without any differentiation.

 

 

If sweetness can be separated from jaggery, if the ocean can be separated from the waves, if the eyes can see without light, then only can my simple devotee be separated from me.

 

 

He, who definitely wishes to escape the bonds of birth and death, should follow the path of righteousness very meticulously and be always tranquil.

 

 

Such a person should abandon harsh words; should not pick on others' weaknesses; remain engaged in good acts concentrating on one's own duties.

 

 

Surrender your mind and heart to me. Remember me continuously. Do not bother about your body and leave it to itself. Such a person need not fear nor have to concern himself about the three-fold purification.

 

 

He who looks to me with undivided attention, praises me and listens to my praises is blessed. He, who has no other desire except me, he only will reach the Supreme Self" .

Our Beloved Sadguru Sainath, please accept our humble prayers on this Holy Day of Guruvaar. Baba, like sun, You are our best Teacher, as the sun rises up whether it's dark, cloudy or windy, it continues its duty whether we like it or not to protect the lives on the earth. Like the sun rises up from the clouds of hardships, You always helping us to rise up from our negativity, unforgiveness attitude, painful experiences on all corners, and mental wounds from our near and dear. We believe You are with us and You alone safeguarding us from all odds and evils. On this holy day, we start our prayers by reading your divine guidance from Shri Sai Samartha Satcharitra.

In a holy place like Shirdi, on a Thursday, an auspicious day, I wished to chant the name of 'Ram' continuously the whole day.

 

 

On Wednesday night, on the bed, until I fell asleep, I fixed my mind on the chanting of the name of 'Ram' and engrossed it in my heart.

 

 

When I woke up early in the morning, I was reminded of the name of 'Ram'. When this happened, I thought that my tongue had really justified its existence.

 

 

Therefore I firmly decided to continue thus. Having finished my morning ablutions, I took some flowers, that I found, along with me and set out to have Sai's early morning darshan.

 

 

Leaving behind Dixit's home and passing outside Butti's wada, I heard a sweet song beautifully sung by Aurangabadkar.

 

 

If I try to put the whole song in the ovimetre, the listeners will be deprived of its original beauty and may not enjoy it.

 

 

So, I will sing the whole song for you, word by word, by which the loving listeners will be happy. The song contains the basic upadesh.

"Oh, my brother, I have received the collyrium of Guru's Grace.

I do not believe in anyone but Ram. (Chorus)

 

1. Within me is Ram and without is Ram.

Even in dreams it is Sita-Ram.

 

2. Sleeping and waking is Ram.

Wherever my eyes go they see perfect Ram.

 

3. The beautiful experience of the disciple of Janardhan – I see Ram wherever my sight moves. "

 

 

Already, I had decided and resolved to chant the name of Ram. But before commencing to do it, this song which I heard added strength.

 

 

Thus, I was convinced. Had the great compassionate Sai showered that water on that seed of my resolve?

 

 

Carrying a tamburi in his hand, Aurangabadkar, facing Sai, in the courtyard, was singing full-throatedly and the notes spread everywhere.

 

 

Aurangabadkar was Baba's devotee. Like me, he had surrendered at his feet. Though he knew so many songs by heart, why was he inspired to sing the particular one at that time.

 

 

No one was aware of my resolution. Then, why was only that song being sung? It is as if Baba had pulled the strings and inspired him accordingly.

 

 

We are all mere puppets and mother Sai is the controller.

He rightly suggested the upasana without directly saying so.
